Origins of Vietnamese Women’s Day 20/10

On 20/10/1930, the Vietnam Anti-Imperialist Women’s Union (now renamed the Vietnam Women’s Union) was officially established. To mark this event, the Communist Party of Vietnam has decided to choose 20/10 every year as a traditional day for Vietnamese women. This is also a day to celebrate and honor Vietnamese women, taking the name “Vietnamese Women’s Day”.

Throughout the history of our country, Vietnamese women have been affirming an important position in the cause of protecting, building and developing the country.

When the Indochinese Communist Party was founded, the party’s first platform mentioned the equality of men and women. This means that women have also become an important force in the revolution with the task that the Party must liberate women, associated with the mission of national liberation and the liberation of classes.

20/10 was chosen as Vietnamese Women’s Day, showing the importance of the Party and the whole society to the important role and contribution of Vietnamese women.

Meaning of Vietnamese Women’s Day 20/10

Vietnam Women’s Day 20/10 is the first day in the country’s history that a separate organization for women can operate legally and openly, to encourage women to actively contribute to the revolutionary cause. This is also the day when for the first time, Vietnamese women can hold the electoral ballot, participate in government and social work, and hold many responsibilities in the State apparatus.

In the liberation of the country, Vietnamese women are not only a solid rear, contributing to the country excellent husbands and children, but they are also resilient and heroic soldiers on the front lines.

In peacetime, Vietnamese women make important contributions to promoting the development of the country, as Uncle Ho once said: “Giang son brocade Vietnam is made by Vietnamese women, young as well as old, trying to weave embroidery that is more beautiful and brilliant”.

Vietnam Women’s Day 20/10 every year is a day when the country and society recognize and honor the great contributions of women, mothers, aunts, sisters, children – Vietnamese women deserve 8 golden letters: “Hero, indomitable, loyal, courageous”.
