Stepping into the group’s leadership space, I immediately felt a very different atmosphere. Calm, standard and full of invisible pressure. The survey started with familiar measurements. But then quickly opened up a series of interesting stories behind the door of power. When designing the chairman office, the most challenging thing was not choosing materials or layout. But understanding the leadership spirit hidden in every detail. Every corner of the wall, light beam or wood grain needed to “speak the right language” of the leader. And that is what made this experience so special and unforgettable.
1. Current space of designing the chairman office – Details revealed for the first time
Entering the current president’s office space, I feel like I’m touching a shell of potential that has not been fully awakened. The original layout still follows the traditional office motif. Dark brown wood color, neutral light walls and large glass panels facing the city view. The materials used are not bad, even quite high quality. But they have not been connected and created a rhythm enough to convince. However, I still have to admit that the room has valuable strengths. Such as large area, rare for a leader’s office. Open view with a nearly 180-degree angle. And most of all, the location is right in the center of the floor. The place plays the role of the core of power, connecting all operational activities.
But upon closer inspection, the “bottlenecks” in the design began to appear. Natural light, which is a luxury gift of architecture, has not been fully exploited. Thick curtains, furniture arrangement and desk orientation unintentionally limit the light flow. The storage system is as messy as a hastily written draft. The cabinets are redundant but lack logic. Making the overall look heavy and unbalanced. And above all, the room still lacks a distinct personal mark. Lacks the “personality” often found in the working space of a leader.
Technical problems in designing the chairman office
Beneath the aesthetic veneer lies a technical problem that cannot be overlooked. The air conditioning system works well but is not yet optimal. It can easily cause uncomfortable temperature fluctuations during peak times. Soundproofing also needs to be upgraded to ensure the privacy necessary for important conversations. The current security arrangement is only at a basic level. The main door is not secure enough, the emergency exit is not really in line. And the camera system needs to be fine-tuned to cover, but not create a feeling of being over-supervised. All of these factors pose an interesting challenge. An opportunity to redesign the space, worthy of the leader’s position.

2. Conversation with the Board of Directors – Revealing the Chairman’s Personality
During the discussion with the leadership, I felt as if layers of the chairman’s personality were gradually revealed. Not through strong statements, but through subtle, precise requests down to the last detail. The first thing that was emphasized was privacy. The space had to be discreet enough for strategic conversations to take place safely. But absolutely not create a feeling of suffocation. The privacy they desired did not come from thick walls. But from a feeling of being “safely surrounded”. Gentle, subtle and difficult to fully express in words.
A mini conference room is also an important requirement. A small space inside the chairman’s office for senior partners. A place that shows respect while maintaining the continuity of the leader’s experience. The overall beauty must reach a level of sophistication: not ostentatious, not showy. But still sharp so that anyone who enters can see that this is the office of a person of stature. Every line, every material seems to have just touched the boundary of minimalism. But still enough to create depth for the space.
The Chairman’s Personality Through the Assistant’s Narration
The most interesting things come from the assistant’s story. A person who understands the president in the quietest way. He describes a person who lives a minimalist life, but loves neatness. Every object that appears must have a reason to exist. The president is very picky about colors, especially avoiding tones that are too “noisy”. Because they easily distract concentration. He also said that this leader loves technology, but absolutely does not like to show off equipment. He wants all utilities to operate intelligently. But blend into the space so discreetly that it is almost impossible to recognize their presence.
The moment that made me smile was when the assistant suddenly revealed: the chairman has a hobby of collecting watches. A small detail but immediately inspired me to think of a sophisticated display corner. Where light, materials and personal stories blend together. Along with that are the “difficult” but inspiring requirements. Making me realize that this project does not stop at designing an office. But it is a journey to create a space that fully reflects the personality of the leader.

3. Designing the chairman office – Technical survey and behind-the-scenes that few people know
The technical survey stage is always the “behind the scenes” part that few people see. But it determines almost all the possibilities of realizing the idea. My team and I started by measuring every centimeter. A seemingly simple job but often full of surprises. There are areas covered by old cabinets or wall panels. To measure accurately, we had to remove each piece, squeeze into narrow gaps. And take careful notes so as not to miss any errors that could affect the design.
Next is checking the natural light – the element that I always consider the soul of the space. We determine the direction of sunlight at each time. Measure the light intensity and evaluate the possibility of replacing the glass with Low-E. To reduce heat radiation while maintaining the clarity of the view. At the same time, we conduct a noise survey. Sometimes just standing still for a few minutes can detect the sounds coming from the back from the machine room or the common area. Those “noises” force us to consider active soundproofing solutions from the beginning.
Check foundation and structure
The foundation and ceiling structure were also carefully considered. To see if it was possible to install a plaster ceiling system that concealed the equipment. Creating a sense of lightness, without affecting the overall structure? Throughout the process, I recorded quick sketches. From the position of the chairman’s desk, the smooth movement path, the display cabinet area. Or even feng shui considerations. Those were the first pieces, though rough, but carrying within them the look of a future space.
4. Behind-the-scenes moments of designing the chairman office are truly special
During the implementation process, the “behind the scenes” moments that really stick out to me are the internal debates between the architects. We sometimes faced with seemingly small, but vital decisions. Should we use natural wood to create a sense of lasting luxury? Or choose high-end veneer to achieve uniformity and flexibility in construction? Color tones are also an equally difficult issue. Should we choose a powerful dark color, expressing solemnity and dignity? Or a modern light color, bringing a feeling of openness and freedom? Each choice sets a unique spirit and story for the space. And we have to carefully consider each perspective.
Unexpected challenges
In addition, there were many unexpected challenges. A water-stained wall, which seemed like a small detail, forced us to thoroughly treat it before finishing the surface. The old air conditioning system also changed the ceiling layout. Making it more complicated to hide equipment or create plaster ceiling layers.
Interacting with other departments such as engineering, maintenance, security, etc. is also an indispensable part. Each side has its own requirements, sometimes conflicting. But it is these exchanges that help us see the problem more comprehensively. From there, we find a solution that balances aesthetics, comfort, and safety. It is from these moments that the space begins to gradually take shape. It carries within it sophistication, meticulousness, and depth. Only when standing in the middle of the backstage can we fully feel it.
5. Step out of the room and think about a special project
Walking out of the room after the survey, I still had a mixed feeling of pressure and excitement. Pressured by the specificity and high requirements of the space, but at the same time extremely stimulating for creativity. I told myself that the president’s office is not simply a place to work. It must be a “manifesto of power”. Where every line, every material, every detail tells a story about the position, vision and personality of the leader.
The first ideas flashed
Even standing in the middle of the room, the first ideas began to flash. The overall layout allowed for optimal flow. Placing the chairman’s desk in a central position, but still close to other functional areas. A material moodboard formed in my mind, from luxurious dark wood to delicate metal surfaces. All creating depth while maintaining the necessary simplicity. Hidden lighting and technology were also calculated. How to make all amenities work perfectly while remaining almost invisible. Without breaking the elegance of the entire space.
From those rough sketches, I began to prepare for the next step. Conceptualizing in detail, meeting with the team to refine each idea, testing the perspectives. And meticulously adjusting every smallest detail. I began to prepare for the presentation to the leadership. Where the presentation was not only to convey the design idea, but also to tell the story of the leader. Each step in this process always required absolute concentration. But that pressure became a source of motivation. Urging me to create a space that was not only beautiful. But also full of meaning and had deep symbolic value.
Conclude
After a day of surveying and recording every little detail, I realized that designing the president’s office is not just about arranging furniture or choosing high-quality materials. It is the art of combining space, light, function, and the personality of the leader. Every design decision must be considered to both demonstrate power and create a sense of closeness and comfort. The moments standing in the middle of the room, observing the light coming through the window or feeling the rhythm of the space. Made me understand more clearly the role of architecture. It not only decorates, but also tells the president’s own story. This is a valuable and inspiring experience that Proce’s team and I have experienced together.
