Designing the chairman office interior is not simply about arranging tables and chairs. It is the art of building leadership identity. It is a place to reflect the vision, personality and core values of the head of the business. But what happens when exquisitely handcrafted furniture is custom-made from Vietnamese craft villages? Where modern power meets artisanal heritage. Every small detail tells a big story about identity and lasting leadership. Let’s explore this journey through the article below!

1. The journey to find inspiration and materials in designing the chairman office interior

On the journey to find inspiration and materials for a design project imbued with Vietnamese spirit. My partner and I, a young interior designer, left the bustling city and headed back to the North. A place that preserves traditional craft values.

We stopped in Dong Ky (Bac Ninh). A wood village famous for its elaborately carved beds and cabinets that seem to bring the soul of the forest into every grain of wood. Arriving in Ha Thai, I was stunned by the shimmering lacquer. Where the old artisan – three generations in the profession – tells the story through each soft and skillful brushstroke.

Then at Dai Bai, the sound of copper hammering resounds like the heartbeat of a hundred-year-old craft village. At Phu Vinh, rattan and bamboo strips, through skillful hands, turn into simple yet graceful chairs and baskets.

When we were handed a lacquer box with delicate bamboo and plum motifs. Our eyes suddenly lit up – the sparkling light like a child seeing something magical for the first time. In that moment, I realized: the material is memory. It is the national soul flowing through every carving, every paint stroke, every woven bamboo thread. A journey to return to one’s own identity. 2. The design begins to take shape – every detail has a story to tell

Desk – Harmony between power and intelligence

The desk is where I have the most expectations. It is also the place where the designer and I spend a lot of time to “bring soul” into every detail. The material chosen is old mahogany, taken from the Thanh Hoa forest – the wood that craftsmen call “gold of the forest”. It stands out for its firmness, gentle fragrance and soft wood grain like Chinese ink spreading on Do paper.

The table top is carved with a hidden dragon. It symbolizes power, wisdom and virtue. The drawer handles are specially made by an artisan from Chuyen My village. This place is famous for the most sophisticated mother-of-pearl inlay technique in the North. Each piece of mother-of-pearl is trimmed, thinned and then attached to the wooden floor. It is like attaching the light of the crescent moon to every movement of the hand. Looking at the table under the yellow light, I feel like I am working in the midst of history. Where work is no longer a mere task, but becomes an inspiring ritual.

Bookcase – A place to preserve knowledge and Vietnamese soul in designing the chairman office interior

I always believe that a bookcase is not only a place to store books. It also reflects the cultural depth of the owner. Therefore, we chose to design the bookcase in the shape of a stylized Dong Son bronze drum. An ancient symbol, each pattern carved on the drum surface is like an epic poem about people and country. The front of the cabinet has concentric circles, interspersed with motifs of Lac birds, the sun… All are skillfully shaped on a dark lim wood background.

The special thing is that the entire cabinet is made in the traditional mortise and tenon style. No nails or screws are used. This is a technique that has existed for hundreds of years, and only a few artisans in Dong Ky carpentry village still maintain it. Each drawer when opened makes a soft “click” sound, like the echo of time. I like standing in front of the cabinet early in the morning. When the sunlight shines through the window, it illuminates the books. And makes the bronze drum patterns seem to come to life, whispering about ancient stories.

President’s chair – A combination of authority and sophistication

The chair is an important highlight in the working space. It is both practical and highly symbolic. I did not choose the usual industrial chair, but ordered it from a carpentry workshop in Hue. Where there are artisans who have quietly kept the craft of hand carving for generations. The entire frame is made of striped ebony, black as velvet. Cool to the touch, the edge of the chair is surrounded by soft, skillful and sturdy wooden lines.

The armrest is the most special part – where I asked the artisan to engrave ancient Vietnamese patterns. Inspired by the image of Lac birds, water waves, lotus flowers and ancient texts. Under the light, the lines emerge like calm waves in the deep night. The entire chair body is sewn with smooth, glossy, dark brown leather. It has a natural scent and will become darker over time. As if the imprint of memories is quietly imprinted on each grain of leather. Sitting on that chair, I always feel both steadfast as if supported by tradition. And at the same time, relaxed as if listening to whispers from the past.

Wall painting – The epic poem Lac Hong in designing the chairman office interior

The large lacquer painting hanging in the middle of the room is the object that I cherish the most. Both in terms of art and spiritual meaning. Made by an artisan from Ha Thai village, it took nearly 4 months to complete. The painting is called Lac Hong reaching the great sea, depicting the image of the ancient Vietnamese fleet setting sail. Against the crimson sky of dawn, in the distance is a dragon flying among the white-capped waves.

Lacquer is both a material and an accumulation of time. Each layer of paint from primer, color paint, to topcoat must be hand-brushed, dried, sanded, and then brushed again. Sometimes just one layer of paint takes a whole week to complete. Each time you apply paint, it is not just a technical step. It is also like a layer of time settling down, little by little, building up the depth of the work. Like our national history, built up through each generation. When the light shines on, the painting is not dazzling but gentle and quiet. As a reminder: in a changing world, roots are always the most stable support to reach out to the ocean. 3. Designing the chairman office interior – The story behind the product

I still remember the old craftsman’s eyes when he handed over the completed armrests after three months of hard work. Three months just to carve the armrests, each line of ancient Vietnamese patterns meticulously carved by hand. No machines, no rush. He said, each carving was a breath-taking moment. Because one mistake could ruin the whole precious piece of wood.

There are artisans I had to wait a long time to get a nod from. Like the 72-year-old man in Ha Thai lacquer village – who once declared that he would “quit the profession completely”. But in the end, he accepted because he said: “You are someone who truly understands and appreciates cultural values”.

To be honest, bringing traditional craftsmanship into the president’s office space was a difficult problem. At times, the design seemed “out of place”. There was no common voice between classical aesthetics and contemporary minimalism. But the deeper I went, the clearer I realized: this was not just a design project. It was a journey, and each object, each craftsman. Together with me, they are preserving a part of the Vietnamese soul in an era where everything seems to be running too fast.

Conclude

A leadership space does not need to shout out the word “power”. It only needs to leave an echo like the sound of wood when the door is closed. Like the metallic shine of copper inlaid in the last rays of the day. Interior design of the president’s room is no longer about choosing luxury items, but choosing something with soul. Each handicraft from the craft village not only fills the room. But also fills the gap between tradition and the future. And perhaps, it is in that silence that the leader finds the most important thing: a space to reflect, to lead the way. Not by voice, but by depth. (Top 5 stormy president’s office designs in 2026).
