Amidst the shiny, square meeting room, where people are neat and quiet. Have you ever felt out of place? We have also sat in such spaces. Modern, fully equipped but cold and emotionless. Until an idea crept in: Can a meeting room bring the feeling of being welcomed, being listened to. Instead of pressure and showing off? We found the answer in the Wabi Sabi design style. A Japanese philosophy that celebrates the beauty of imperfection. From cracks, rough walls, soft lighting… A Wabi Sabi style meeting room was born – as a necessary silence in the midst of a busy life.
The Journey of Search – “We came across Wabi Sabi by chance
Sometimes, amidst the hustle and bustle of modern life, we realize that we are gradually losing our connection with the deepest and most genuine values. Feeling tired of the flashiness and ostentation of “standard beauty” things. It has urged us to start a new journey. A journey to find a lifestyle that is sophisticated but profound. Simple but not superficial. And then, like a quiet fate, we came across Wabi Sabi.
Wabi Sabi is an ancient Japanese philosophy. Where beauty does not lie in perfection. Rather, it lies in what is rustic, incomplete, even broken by time. It appreciates impermanence, promotes natural beauty, humility and tranquility. Not a passing trend. Wabi Sabi is a way of life, a way of looking at life that is gentler, slower and deeper.
We chose Wabi Sabi not only to change our meeting and working space. But also to change the way we feel and are present in this world. A quiet choice amidst the noise. (Unboxing Proce’s top 4 million-dollar meeting rooms).
We set out to create an “imperfect” meeting room
The new meeting room space was born from the desire to bring the Wabi Sabi philosophy into working life. Where quietness, sincerity and emotional depth can go hand in hand with efficiency. Instead of creating a sleek, modern room. We chose to start from the most rustic and natural.
Materials are the foundation of space
We use raw, unpolished wood. This is wood that still has its grain. Even the small cracks of time. Raw cement is left on the wall, not painted. To give the surface a very unique and rough look. Natural stone with asymmetrical veins is used as an accent on the floor or table. And light rough fabric on some furniture creates a sense of intimacy and simplicity. (Handmade ceramic tiles – Vietnamese identity in the chairman’s meeting room).
Wabi Sabi meeting room colors
The colors in this style room do not have strong contrasts. We choose the color palette of earth and nature. Like light brown, ash gray, beige, sometimes opaque ivory white… All create a warm, gentle feeling like morning dew.
Interior – The heart of the entire meeting room space
The meeting room is decorated with mismatched furniture, but in perfect harmony. The seating is varied, from wooden chairs with paint that has faded over the years. To simple fabric chairs, all carry the mark of time and their own story. All old objects are selected and reused. Bringing a sense of closeness, warmth and uniqueness to the meeting room space.
The conference table is crafted from large natural wood panels. With a rough surface, light scratches and clear wood grain. They help to enhance the rustic, authentic beauty of the table. The bookshelves and side tables are also made from natural wood. Clearly showing the sophisticated mark of the craftsman. Bringing a harmonious beauty between sophistication and simplicity.
Wooden stools of different sizes and shapes are cleverly arranged. Bringing liveliness and intimacy to the whole room. Every piece of furniture in this space is a testament to the Wabi Sabi philosophy. The philosophy of appreciating beauty in imperfection and simplicity.
Light – emotional “material” for meeting room
The lighting in the meeting room is arranged in a subtle and intentional way. We make the most of the natural light from the large windows. Let the sunlight gently penetrate through the thin fabric curtains. Create a gentle and warm space. In the evening, the warm yellow light emitted from the handmade paper lamps. Brings a quiet, pleasant feeling. Helps calm the mind and create a relaxing atmosphere even in the most stressful meetings. (Top 4 types of lighting that lead to emotions in meeting rooms).
When the meeting room knows how to listen
Entering the Wabi Sabi conference room, one immediately feels a comfortable silence. A far cry from the usual tense atmosphere in a typical conference room. The sound seems to be quiet. Everything seems to whisper: “Here, you can breathe easily.” There is no need to force yourself or create a perfect appearance. The person sitting in the room just needs to be themselves, and is welcomed with sincerity and tolerance.
Feeling welcome and included
The mismatched chairs and the naturally weathered table are no longer a flaw. They are a gentle message: “You don’t have to be perfect.” This acceptance makes meetings more real, more intimate. Not about showing off or showing off, but about listening and understanding deeply.
Memory and depth
The raw materials such as the old door, the simple bamboo lampshade. Or the unplastered wall like opening the door to memories. Leading people to touch the truth and depth of themselves. The meeting room is now no longer just a place to work. But like a shelter for sincere thoughts.
After each meeting, people leave without the burden of pressure. Instead, they feel light, as if they have just gone through a short meditation session. Many people wonder: “Why do I feel so peaceful after a meeting?” And that is the profound value of the Wabi Sabi space. A place where emotions are transformed, where people are connected and reborn.
Conclude
A Wabi Sabi meeting room does not seek to please the eye. Instead, it quietly nurtures the emotions of the meeting participants. Not flashy, not ostentatious, but enough to make people want to stay. Listen, share and touch the most real thing in the other person. The meeting may end, but the emotions still linger. As if someone has just stepped out of a suggestive silence. Therefore, designing a meeting room, sometimes is not to talk a lot. But to let people be themselves, in imperfect, but complete beauty.
